Her works include the dynamics of various public spaces and how we understand the human experience through technology (BUYME, 2023 – present). Libre uses her body as the subject of performance – focusing on finding form rather than materiality. Zorrilla utilizes mixed media to present her narratives of healing the interpersonal and external worlds (HOW IT FEELS 2022) (HOLD 2022) (COG DIS 2021). Libre is a winner of the Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY) artist employment program, a 2-year program that funds employment for 300 artists working in collaboration with community-based organizations across New York State. Over the years, supporters of Zorrilla’s work include Creatives Rebuild New York, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Mellon Foundation, and Henry Street Settlement. Libre joined the community arts-based organization Perfect City in 2016 and continues participating in socially engaged art practices in her academic and professional life. She is pursuing her MFA in the Digital and Interdisciplinary Arts Program (DIAP). Perfect City, a project founded in 2016. Perfect City advocates for housing justice for marginalized communities of color and empowering communities to reshape their neighborhoods using their experiences to make policy changes. Perfect City enacts creative mapping exercises to encourage place-making and asks city-dwellers to put themselves in the position of city planners to create a city reflective of their essential needs. Perfect City ensures that communal city-building is at the forefront; ensuring that inclusive and equitable spaces are accessible to the most marginalized. The sculpture presents both an elevator and a coffin when laid flat. The elevator is hand-built and bisque fired to cone 10, painted with acrylics. The elevator has a few symbolic presentations that include “mal de Ojo” or evil eye to protect against misfortunes. This pendant is given to people for protection. The flowers grow from the elevator after passing. Human bodies feed the soil to grow plants (I chose roses to signify Catholic faith and the virgin Mary). The back of the elevator is the catholic faith, a painting of the sacred heart. Long-suffering yet not letting the trauma make me withdrawn. The piece intentionally worn to present tradition, the wear of repeating rituals that brings us together. Coffee time is an integral part of my childhood and Dominican culture. Every morning, I brew my coffee using a greca, like my mother, my mother’s mother, and all our mothers that came before us. The strawberry cup was made and trimmed on the wheel, bisque, and glazed fired cone 10 with copper red and celadon. The handle has a hand sculptured leaf. The cup is a play on my abuela’s tiny yet extravagant teacups sitting in her china cabinet. There was always a sense of magic surrounding coffee time.
